Vicki Thompson
Vicki opened Island Girl Nails in February 2005 after attending a four month program at Aesthetics Northwest in Bellevue. She saw the need for a nail salon on the south end after driving to Oak Harbor every two weeks to get her nails done. She chose to open her own salon, instead of renting space in an existing salon, so she could have control over her environment, products, and schedule.
Her first year was spent in a small space, until her daughter Sarah got her license and started working as well. They quickly realized the space was too small, and found the wonderful building the salon is located in now. Vicki and Sarah found it quite a challenge to build a salon from the ground up, with as little experience as they had, but with a bit of trial and error they got it right! There are now a total of three girls at the salon, offering manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, gel nails, and waxing.
Vicki says she is always amazed at the turns in life, never guessing she would own her own nail salon. She now loves what she does, both on the client side and the business side. She loves the challenge of managing a business, keeping up with industry trends and education, following state requirements to insure their clients safety, and trying to understand the local business environment. She loves her clients, and the way she makes them feel. She finds sending people out of her salon with beautiful, healthy, happy hands and feet very satisfying and rewarding.
